The current water crisis is dubbed the next crisis after Eskom. How true can that be? We have a wonderful constitutional right to have a free water supply, and a sophisticated water storage system on the continent and don't discount we can build desalination plants if the Guptas get the tender.

So is it something I should worry about? The response to that is an emphatic yes. In recent history, the US terror attacks on the Twin towers are a great example. Shortly after this horrific event unfolded on live television for the world to witness or should I say, for the US government to gather its support to invade Iraq. George W Bush went on a press briefing to tell the American people not to worry and go shopping. Isn't ironic when the rating agency is evaluating the South African economy, on the same day we celebrate Black Friday? Sorry, to go off the tangent. So, The Us government went to war that cost more than $3 trillion dollars, this is just in monetary value and excludes other costs i.e benefits for war veterans costs, loss of life, breaking down of families etc.

Then a new administration led by Barak Obama carries out a special operation to execute Bin laden at a cost of not more than $5 million. I thumb sucked that number, by the way, don't quote me. No crisis should be left to a third party to solve. It tends to be very expensive and can be riddled with corruption.

We have to remember the water crisis is a mismanagement of resources issue, not solely a rainfall shortage. We are very well aware that we live in the driest part of the continent. We should make use of a mixed water supply, water reuse methods and most importantly the education of the user. It will reduce the demand for our water infrastructure and give an opportunity for the government to focus on the maintenance of our dams and the quality of water.
